UHMWPE Hard UD Fabric

UD fabric is made of UHMWPE fiber, is a high-performance material that is commonly used in the production of body armor and bulletproof panels. The specially formulated base material and 2-12 piles of unidirectional fiber flakes are 90°orthogonally arranged to be compositely processed with resin matrix by a specific process, presenting as a white fiber sheet.

Product Description

UHMWPE UD Fabric, a type of Hard Armor Ballistic Fabric, is crafted by aligning Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene fibers in a Uni-Directional (UD) pattern, where layers are bonded under high pressure. This process creates a smooth, non-woven fabric that is lightweight, exceptionally strong, and highly durable. It is resistant to moisture, UV rays, and chemicals, making it ideal for applications in body armor, vehicle armor, bulletproof armor plates, bulletproof shields, vehicle armor, hatch door, helicopter, etc, where it provides superior ballistic resistance while maintaining flexibility and durability.

How UHMWPE UD Fabric is Made

UHMWPE UD (Uni-Directional) fabric is produced through a specialized process where fibers of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene are aligned in parallel and bonded together using high-pressure techniques. This alignment of fibers in a single direction, with subsequent layers oriented at 90 degrees to each other, maximizes the fabric's ballistic resistance. The fabric is then layered to create a flexible but strong sheet that can absorb and disperse energy from ballistic impacts.

Appearance

The UHMWPE UD fabric typically has a sleek, non-woven appearance with a smooth finish. It is often white or translucent, depending on the specific type of UHMWPE used. The fabric’s surface is clean and uniform, which makes it easy to layer and incorporate into various applications without adding unnecessary bulk.

Key Features

Lightweight: UHMWPE UD fabric is significantly lighter than traditional ballistic materials like Kevlar, making it ideal for personal protection where mobility is crucial.
High Strength: Despite its light weight, UHMWPE UD fabric offers exceptional tensile strength, providing superior protection against high-velocity projectiles.
Durability: This fabric is resistant to moisture, UV rays, and chemicals, ensuring long-lasting performance even in harsh environments.
Flexibility: The Uni-Directional construction allows the fabric to be both flexible and durable, making it suitable for complex shapes and designs in armor applications.

Applications

UHMWPE UD fabric is primarily used in the production of hard armor ballistic fabrics for a range of protective gear:

Body Armor: The fabric is used in bulletproof vests, helmets, and plates, providing maximum protection with minimal weight.
Vehicle Armor: UHMWPE UD fabric is incorporated into the armor of military and law enforcement vehicles, enhancing their defense capabilities without compromising on speed or agility.
Marine Armor: Used in the construction of lightweight, high-strength armor for naval vessels to protect against ballistic threats.
Infrastructure Protection: The fabric is also utilized in the protection of critical infrastructure such as buildings and safe rooms, offering a robust barrier against potential attacks.
