Introduction - Lithium Hydroxide

Lithium hydroxide is one of the most important lithium compounds, there are two kinds of LiOH and LiOH·H2O. Anhydrous LiOH is a white tetragonal crystalline particle or liquid powder with a relative density of 1.45g/cm3, a melting point of 471.2℃ and a boiling point of 1620℃. Lithium hydroxide is a white, deliquable single crystal powder with a relative density of 1.51g/cm3 and a melting point of 680℃. When the temperature is higher than 100℃, it loses its crystallizing water and becomes anhydrous LiOH. LiOH is soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohol, and can easily absorb CO2 in air to produce Li2CO3. LiOH and its concentrated solution are corrosive and can eat glass and ceramics at normal temperatures.

Lithium base grease produced with lithium hydroxide has long service life, strong water resistance, good fire performance, difficult oxidation, stable performance during multiple heating - cooling - heating cycle, applicable temperature range can be from -50℃ ~ +300℃, widely used in military equipment, aircraft, automobiles, rolling machines and various mechanical transmission parts of lubrication. In the battery industry, lithium hydroxide used in alkaline battery, nickel metal hydride battery additive, can prolong the battery life, increase the storage capacity.

Production method

Lithium carbonate causticization method: the refined lime milk and lithium carbonate at the ratio of 1.08∶1, adjust the concentration of causticization liquid 18g/L ~ 20g/L, heating to boiling and strong stirring, causticization for about 30min, the reaction is as follows: the reaction can get the concentration of about 3.5% LiOH solution. After removing the insoluble residue, the mother liquor was decompressed and condensed and crystallized to obtain lithium hydroxide. Anhydrous LiOH was prepared by drying lithium hydroxide at 130℃ ~ 140℃ and heating under pressure at 150℃ ~ 180℃.
