The last heir to the Florentine Renaissance, the last direct descendant of the House of Medici:Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici
When Anna was born, the Medici family was no longer in vogue. She could not be able to marry into a royal family in the glory of her ancestors. Instead, when it came to her marriage, the royal families of France, Spain and Portugal all refused the girl. Finally, at the age of 24, Anna married John William, Elector of Palatine in Germany. But the marriage was not the beginning of a happy life and Anna did not have children during the marriage. When in 1716 John William died, she returned to Florence and began her life in the Pitti Palace.
After the death of her father, older brother and younger brother, Anna was the only Medici left. She was a very generous and detached person, devoting much of her personal wealth to religious and charitable activities.
Maybe someone would say Anna was a pious woman, others said she was rude and loud, or that she had an illegitimate son who was not approved by the Medici family... But none of these matters.
She knew she was the last of the House of Medici, she knew that the Medici family would no longer exist, but she kept properties, art collections and jewelry safe for as long as she lived. In 1737, few years before her death, Anna left all the House of Medici properties, including the art collection, to the state of Tuscany, on one condition:
"Nothing leaves Florence and all House of Medici's treasures remain here for all the world to see."
Her will made the wealth of Medici, until now, still being talked about...
Thanks to Anna's foresight, the city is now a popular tourist destination. Just 16 years after Anna's death, the Medici Palace opened to the public, bringing the first visitors to Florence -- and to this day, tourism is a source of both local economic development and Tuscan cultural taste. Because of its artistic and architectural heritage, Forbes magazine named it one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The man who starts a family is the founder, the man who sends it away is the draper, and Anna was the last mourner of the House of Medici. She knew her dynasty was over and there was nothing she could do. She always used silverware, travelled with an eight horse-drawn carriage; she was conceited and dignified, an effort to maintain the family's last glory.
After her death, the Guild of Merchants and Fabric Finishing will honor the memory of the last woman in the Medici family and admire her dedication and artistic legacy as the family's draper, creating this fragrance as symbol of "Horizon, Responsibility and Social Value" - ARTE DEI MERCATANTI 1182 warm fragrance makes people think of distant hometown, feel a recently finished journey. It is the end of a great family, the birth of eternal art...
