Typically, an operator needs to machine one end of a part, remove the part, and automatic CNC machine the other end. Turning time is halved by machining both ends of the bar simultaneously. But beyond that, face centering machines can often completely eliminate post-finishing operations by properly preparing the face of the workpiece prior to turning. The machine's centering operation (creating a precisely positioned hole for further drilling or machining) can also eliminate the need to machine certain portions of the workpiece's outer diameter later.
