Product Description

When Giovanni de' Medici died, his son Cosimo took over the Medici business empire. Due to the sudden death of his father, Cosimo was forced to go through the rough and tumble of business and politics. If not for the huge responsibility and mission, Cosimo could have been a famous painter, or a poet.

Growing up in an affluent environment, Cosimo yearned for spiritual pursuits other than material ones from an early age. He was attracted by art and was sensitive to everything, but his father did not want him to become an artist. In order to guide his son to take over the business empire, he had taught:
"Wise men live for their mission, fools live for themselves".
The Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral could not be perfected by painters, sculptors and architects alone. The greatest art of mankind can only be created by successful commerce; the power of commerce can unite all arts, the power of commerce can guide people's dreams and open a window for new industries. The power of commerce can change people's lives and reshape Florence's international standing.

However, Cosimo's road to the Medici leadership was not easy.

On one hand, the economy was depressed by the plague. On the other hand, Italy and the whole Europe were not unified at that time. Wars between small countries led to misery for the citizens and chaos everywhere.

In business he was persecuted and politically excluded by his greatest rivals, the Albizi family. How to survive the political persecution, how to keep the Medici family in Florence and how to save the people of Florence from the burning: these problems became Cosimo's greatest challenges.

Although his father was gone, his spirit still deeply influenced Cosimo. In the environment of everything being ruined at that time, bankers also failed one after another. Cosimo did the opposite without fear, spreading gold widely and investing heavily in art and architecture.

This led to jobs for the masses, fewer famines, more peace and greater love for the Medici.

He hired Filippo Brunelleschi to dome the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, which until today is still the highest masonry vault in the world.

Brunelleschi, a math-savvy architect inspired by ancient Roman architecture, developed a system of linear perspective from unique architectural elements to uniform lighting.

This church was very famous at that time, symbolizing the pinnacle of Roman architectural strength.

Cosimo led the House of Medici and devoted himself to art. Many world-famous artists, architects and scientists were supported and protected by the House of Medici.Cosimo greatly promoted the cultural and artistic development of Florence, making it a gathering place for talented artists in Italy and throughout Europe, and becoming a dream place for countless people. At the same time, Cosimo led the Medici family to the founding of Florence's iconic Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, the world-renowned Galleria degli Uffizi art collection, and the famous Palazzo Pitti, bringing European architecture from the "Gothic age" to the "Renaissance age"

Cosimo once said:
"Maybe in less than 50 years my family will be banished and forgotten, but the architecture and art will live on."
He was right. After the Medici disappeared from history, these beautiful buildings still stood in Florence, attracting tourists. And his ability to amass wealth while sheltering and subsidizing struggling artists made Florence the heart of the Renaissance. Geniuses die one after another, but masterpieces always shine.

There is also a high bell tower in the upper right corner of the Palace of the Medici, which should warn the people of the city in case of emergency.

In the Palace of the Medici, in addition to the iconic family crest, Cosimo's personal ornamentation represents temperance, prudence and fortitude.

Cosimo, with his wealth and popular support, became the unofficial head of state of Florence and laid a solid political foundation for the Medici family to rule Florence for more than 300 years. Even the Pope lamented: "Political problems are settled in his house, men chosen by him are in government, he decides war or peace and even the law is under his control. Except for a title, he is the real king".

Cosimo was the first in the House of Medici to secure a presence in politics. Commemorating Cosimo's donation to Florentine Renaissance art, this fragrance, which symbolises Cosimo's “Temperance”, “Prudence” and “Fortitude”, was launched by the Lawyers Guild to promote his spirit to posterity.
